we move into the new house in two days. we close on wednesday, and move in after that. we are so excited!! i normally hate moving but im kinda looking forward to this one. check out new pics of the house and karsen. all for now.
during our wednesday night time (inside/out) at the hsm of first bossier we are journeying through rob bell's nooma series. if you are not familiar with rob bell marshill.org or his video series nooma.com , he is an amazingly creative teacher of God's word. he has written a couple of books that have rocked my world.
last nite we studied God's word through his video titled "dust." the main quote out of this teaching is "may you be covered in the dust of your rabbi." rob goes on to tell us how Jesus chose his disciples from those who were not the best of the best Jews. the best of the best, the ones who had the Torah memorized and know all of the answers, were already disciples of other rabbi's. Jesus picked the men who were fishermen, who had gone on to learn the family trade. These men weren't scholars, they weren't on a life track to become rabbi's themselves but they were wiling to follow Jesus. He believed in them to be his disciples.
I hope each day that we can take courage in the fact that Jesus believes in us to be his disciple more than we believe that we want to be his disciple. we are called, and i hope i can know Jesus and be close enough to him to be covered in his dust. all for now.
so i didn't blog at all in the month of july. partly because we were so busy and partly because i just forgot. we had a great month, more progress on the house and an amazing time at BigStuf camp in PCB Florida. God has been good to us here in Bossier, and as we approach the start of a new school year (August 8th) i cannot wait to see what God is going to do in the lives of our students. The theme for BigStuf this year was Rhythm. Being in rhythm with God, the Cross, the World, Other, and ourselves. I know this year will prove that God is mighty and ready to do something in the lives of students and their friends that don't have a relationship with Christ. We will put our faith into action this year, serve, serve, serve. check out BigStuf pics and new pics of the house. all for now.
this week our church hosted Summer Survivor. It is our version of vacation bible school. but its not like any other i had been a part of. 1200 kids were a part of our festivities. as of right now we konw 58 of them made the decision to be a Christ-follower this week. it was so cool to see God work on the little hearts of the kids.
not only were we at the church until 10 o'clock each night, but we have had some amazing progress on our house. we have a roof!!! the electricians should be there tomorrow to begin the electrical work. it's crazy how fast it is all happening. we have posted some now pics of the house. we are so excited. all for now.
Construcstion started on our new house this week!!! we have finalized the plans and they have set the forms and we should have a foundation poured this time next week. we are excited, and anxious but cannot wait to see the progress. we will keep posting pictures of the progress. keep checking back for new pictures and progress. all for now.
So i realize that its a week or so since we got back from Senior Trip but due to lack of Internet access at our last location and my schedule since we've been back i have not done a wrap up blog. From Niagara Falls we headed to Ohio and Cedar Point Amusement Park. What a park! 17 coasters in one tiny park. It was amazing! From the Highest coaster to the fastest we went 310 feet in the air to 120 mph. It was awesome!
From there we hit Pigeon Forge, TN. We were blessed with home cooking of Applewood Farmhouse. Good Food! Family Style. We spent the rest of the night riding Go-Karts and playing Put-Put.
A late morning departure found us headed just a few hours away to Cleveland, TN and O.A.R. (Outdoor Adventure Rafting) We had an amazing time rafting down the Ocoee river. That ended the trip for us and we headed back home to our lovely homes.
The Continental breakfast in Ottawa was a great way to start Day 3. Bellies full we headed out, and were given our first clue for the day. We were headed to Niagara Falls. We stopped for lunch outside of Toronto and made it to Niagara Falls just after 1pm eastern time.
After getting our tickets we boarded the "Maid of the Mist" tour boat for an up close view of the of the massive Niagara Falls. That may have been one of the most impressive things i have ever seen. I don't know how anyone could deny the existence of God after being that close to one of his amazing creations.
After the boat tour Bobby surprised us with yet another "appointment" for the day. The clue led us to the Whirlpool Jet Boat company located up the Niagara river. Just imagine a jet powered boat that can hold 50 people and go upstream in a class 5 rapid. If you can imagine that check out there web site. www.whirlpooljet.com
The water was cold, about 40 degrees, but the mission was clear, GO FAST, GET WET, HAVE FUN. And we accomplished all three.
We ended day with a nice dinner and a view of the falls at night. Day three was awesome. We can't wait for Day 4.
Day 2 began with breakfast in "The Roost" the hotel restaurant, that on weekends, doubles as a country dance bar. I had no idea that people in upstate NY liked to country line dance but we were sad that we weren't staying long enough to see the band "Double Cross" play our favorite country hits.
As we headed North out of Rochester we knew the only place we could be going was CANADA! A quick pass through the Canadian border left us guessing where the day's destination would be. As we approached Ottawa i was hoping we would be around long enough to see one of the Stanley Cup Finals Games.
We continued north through Ottawa and found ourselves in Wakefield, Quebec, Canada where we saw the highest bungee jump in North America. Bobby had reserved us spots to bungee jump at Great Canadian Bungee. What a cool place! Once a rock quarry, now the highest legal bungee jump in North America, we could not believe that we were about to bungee jump from 200ft above the water down below.
IT WAS HIGH!! and when i say hight I mean, step out on the ledge and pee your pants HIGH! It was the coolest thing any of us had done. Most of the kids braved the hight and dove into the Canadian air. IT WAS AMAZING!!!
This took all day, but the kids were patient a cheered each other on. The stay in Ottawa was nice and we could not wait for day 3.
We are off! The anticipation mounted as we headed out west. It seem like it took forever before we figured out where we were going. But after lunch at Grapevine Mills Mall in Grapevine, Texas, we headed to DFW to catch out flight to Atlanta. We had no idea why we were going on to Rochester, NY but we knew Bobby wouldn't disappoint.
The hotel in Rochester was "quaint" but as tired as we were it was nice. The first day was one of travel and mystery as we traveled to the most random of places, Rochester NY.
